TOWNSVILLE 400 V8 SUPERCAR
On July 10 2009, the inaugural Townsville 400 V8 Supercar race will kick off, celebrating the best of V8 Supercars over a 3 day period. The $29 million project, funded by the Federal and State Governments and Townsville City Council is expected to deliver $10 million a year in economic benefits for the Townsville region, with 230 full-time equivalent jobs created during construction.

QUEENSLAND TENNIS CENTRE
Tennis in Queensland is set for a new era as the Queensland Tennis centre is on scheduled to be completed in December 2008. National property and development company Mirvac Ltd is developing the disused 12ha Tennyson Powerstation site set on the banks of the picturesque Brisbane River. The redevelopment will deliver an international standard tennis facility linked to a fully integrated luxury riverfront residential precinct.

TOWNSVILLE MEN'S CORRECTIONAL CENTRE
Townsville Correctional Centre, the oldest operating correctional facility in the State, is undergoing a $270 million refurbishment and expansion. The project includes a $142.5 million refurbishment and expansion of Townsville Correctional Centre (TCC), which will become the new Townsville Men's Correctional Centre (TMCC) and the design and construction of a new $130 million Townsville Women's Correctional Centre (TWCC). Construction and engineering company Baulderstone Hornibrook is overseeing the two projects.

GOLD COAST DESALINATION PROJECT
The Gold Coast Desalination Project, worth $1.12 billion, was initiated by the Gold Coast City Council (GCCC) but full ownership has since been acquired by the Queensland Government. The project is being delivered by the GCD Alliance which comprises Veolia Water, John Holland Group, Sinclair Knight Merz and Cardno. The owner of the project is a statutory authority of the State Government: South East Queensland (Gold Coast) Desalination Company Pty Ltd trading as Sure Smart Water.
