Current Local Industry Policy

The Queensland Government's Local Industry Policy was established in 1999 with the objective of giving full, fair and reasonable opportunity for Queensland business to participate in major projects.  The Policy was reviewed in November 2007 and is currently under further review.  It applies to all projects valued at over $5 million (over $2.5 million for projects located in Regional Queensland) which attract significant Government funding.  Also included under the Policy are capital asset acquisitions by Government Departments and Agencies valued at more than $5 million per contract or Standing Offer Arrangement.

Queensland’s business ‘engine’ firing up for wave of productivity

Tourism, Manufacturing and Small Business Minister Jan Jarratt has announced the new $7.5 million Productivity Hubs program to drive Queensland businesses into emerging supply chains both at home and abroad.

Manufacturing businesses who have gone through our QMI Solutions pipeline have already reported $245 million in new sales revenue, efficiency savings and new investment over the past four years alone.

The Heavy Engineering Industry Referrence Group (HERIG) website has been updated, including all project lists.

A new "Information for Suppliers" menu has been added to highlight what is happening in major project procurement and what businesses might do to respond (see http://heirg.com/info-for-suppliers/suppliers.php ).  This compliments other intiatives, such as the Teir Barometer and Major Project Supplier Program delivered through ICN, and other programs being undertaken by DEEDI to provide suppliers with information and assistance in relation to major project requirements. 



ICN involved in QGC business forum in Chinchilla

More than 130 people from Surat Basin and Western Downs businesses have gathered in Chinchilla on the 8th Nov to learn how they can best meet the demands of work associated with the Queensland Curtis LNG Project being developed by QGC Pty Limited.Twenty QCLNG contractors, such as Thiess, Laing O’Rourke, Weatherford Drilling and Easternwell had exhibition booths at the forum and business assistance advice was provided by representatives from the Queensland Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation and the Industry Capability Network. Qld plan to increase local suppliers

Queensland has unveiled plans to drive more opportunity for local companies, create more jobs and help communities share in booming investment in major infrastructure and resources projects. Deputy Premier, Treasurer and Minister for State Development and Trade Andrew Fraser and Minister for Tourism, Small Business and Manufacturing Jan Jarratt announced plans to extend the Local Industry Participation Policy from large government projects to major private sector projects.  Through the Buy Australian at Home and Abroad initiative, the Australian government boosted Supplier Access to Major Projects (SAMP) funding to provide Australian industry with greater supply opportunities in Australia's resources boom.
